Top 6 reasons why buy the Canon EF 24-105 f/4 IS over the 24-70 f/2.8

This is the third post in the 4 parts series on how to choose between the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM and the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM.

Check out the other posts in the series: Canon EF 24 70 f/2.8 L v/s Canon EF 24 105 L f/4 IS L, Top 7 reasons why buy the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 over the 24-105 f/4 IS and Conclusion: Canon EF 24 70 f/2.8 L v/s Canon EF 24 105 L f/4 IS L.

1. You are more of an indoor/low light still shooter
We have seen in Top 7 reasons why buy the Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8 over the 24-105 f/4 IS that the extra stop of the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM is great in low light condition if you need to freeze the action. But what if in the same conditions you need more Depth of Field and the subject you are shooting is not that dynamic, shooting portrait indoor without a flash for instance, than the Image Stabilizer comes in VERY handy allowing you hand held shot at slow shutter speeds.

2. You are looking for a great walk around lens
The range, Image Stabilizer, size and weight of the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM makes it one of the best walk around lenses available.

3. You are more of an outdoor shooter
If you find yourself shooting mostly outdoor and you have no, or little use, for the f/2.8 than the extra reach and the IS of the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM makes it a better option.

4. You camera has a full frame sensor
Whether you are shooting film or digital with a full frame sensor then 70mm might be a little on limit of what you’d be looking for in a walk around lens, that’s why you might want to consider the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM.

5. You prefer to travel light
The weight and size difference between the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM:670 g/107mm and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM: 950g/123.5 mm, makes the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM great for people who likes to travel lightweight, it might even be the only lens you’d need to take with you.

6. You don’t already own or planing for a 70-200 lens
Again something to take into consideration, if let’s say you are only planing to get the Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM as an additional lens to your photography kit, then you might prefer to get the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM in order not to have any uncovered range.
