1. Take a few pictures w/ the lens. then take off the lens. there will be a mirror inside and make sure there's no smears or dust. well, dust is normal, you can use a blower to blow that out. When you look through the view finder, check to see if you can see any visable dust. could be from the lens or the sensor. i'm sure if the guy is smart, he'll clean everything himself before you come.

2. There's an ISO button to the left of the LCD screen. You can press that, hold it down, and use the scroll to the top right corner of the LCD screen to change the ISO setting from 200 all the way to 1600. Make sure that works. Ask if it's been serviced by Nikon, since his year warrantee will expire soon. Ask apporximately how many shots he's taken.

3. I would test if there are scraches in the sensor first. make a photo with f22 against the sky and look to the 100% image.

4. I would also try to see the amount of dead pixel on sensor and on LCD. Take a picture, 1 sec. at ISO 100 while the cap is closed. Then then check the image at 0 if you'll see any blue, green or red dots...
Have a look at the same picture on the lcd of the camera too, to see dead pixels on your lcd...

5. Make sure you get all the accessories, battery, USB cord to connect to computer, charger, the diskette that comes w/ the camera , the manual.
