How your picture end up on adidap

A few weeks ago I got the following comment on one of the flickr rounds

This is not the right way to vote for the pics… here are some very poor composition also , people are just marketing their pics and force people to vote for their pic only… is that the way for a photography competition ?? I don’t think so … lol .. its just making fun of the real creativity… !!!

Although I find this comment harsh and untrue, it got me thinking that you deserve to know how pictures end up published here on adidap.com

Simply submit to the group

I am grateful for every picture that is submitted to our flickr group and each one has its own minute of fame. The Reader’s Photos displays, in real time, the 20 most recent pictures of the group.

Check your thumbnail
Where I live we do not have the luxury of high speed internet connection and bandwidth is somehow limited here so, the first impression I take from a picture is the default thumbnail displayed in the pool. If I find the thumbnail appealing I will open to see the big picture.

Post often
I was hesitating to write this but it is true. I have the human tendency to want to feature more the people that I am familiar with. This doesn’t mean that I will automatically feature in each round all the pictures of the people I know but, if you are a regular, chances are that I will get familiar with your style and get to like your pictures and you will get featured more often.

Go colorful or colorless

I like colorful pictures as well as black and white ones, washed colors with a vintage look works well for me too. You can’t really go wrong here anything might catch my eye.

Go minimal

I love minimalism that’s a fact! I can’t help noticing these images where less is in fact more.

Go weird or unusual

I find myself featuring more of these images that just pop-up to my eyes and don’t look like anything I’ve seen before.

I simply can’t get enough of these pictures that make me think. I can just look at them for hours lost in thoughts .

And that doesn’t mean you won’t get your picture featured unless you follow these “guidelines“, I see myself featuring a lot of landscape pictures for example.

    im honored to have 2 of my pieces featured in the flickr round, I dont kn ow how you do all this multimedia work via dialup , but damn you deserve a pat on the back , to have an up to date website updated + flickr , good job, great work ethic, and your body of work is exceptional

    I for one have found your choices to be refreshing. Unlike Flickr explore, which up until recent was only attainable if you were a scantily clad women doing revealing self-portraits, I find your choices to be emotional and fresh. I have benefited by being chosen several times, although none of mine have been chosen with a majority of votes. I find your choices refreshing because they encourage me to think beyond the “bubble-gum” eye-candy stuff so often presented as art on Flickr. Your choices inspire me to see the world in new and creative ways….and I’m a better photographer because of it.

    I don’t understand why you are justifying yourself to this anonymous Jealous commentator that doesn’t have the courage to put his/her right email/name in the comment.

    I don’t believe that you insinuated on this Website that everyone gets to choose what gets picked. This is YOUR website and we are welcome to join it and play by YOUR rules.
    I think what you did – explain yourself and your voting process to this idiot – is very noble and nice from your part. I do not think it was necessary though.

    I take photograph to have fun and learn, and ADIDAP and others have taught me a lot. Just going through your photo selection every round gets me to think more about how to shoot this and that and inspire me to do better.
    in addition, the exposure to other very talented photographers is a great way to get more connected and improve.

    So, don’t justify yourself. If they don’t like ADIDAP they can go somewhere else.
    Don’t change and keep doing what you’re doing.

    You definitely are a regular and I really like your work. You have some very nice refreshing pictures, for me it is like a DEEP breath when I see them.

    @esseme, Thank you Serge for your continuous support. I really appreciate what you did and still doing for both adidap and myself.

    I didn’t feel the need to justify I just thought that that anonymous had the courage to put a comment although he didn’t leave his real email but maybe a lot of others are wondering why do I feature that picture and not that one without ever dropping a comment. So I thought it would be better to clarify it.

    On another comment I’ve written on your blog I said that photography is all bout making pictures not rework them on photoshop. I must say that it is not entirely truth. Sometimes photoshop could add something to existing picture, something incredible. Properly used effects can make a picture better, but sometimes they just destroy great artistic work of basic picture. That is what I ment.
