/> Brian started his photography weblog in January 2007, and in less than one year he was able to take EpicEdits all the way into the top 10k rated blogs at technorati. I met Brian on the blogsphere a couple of weeks ago and since ADIDAP is not the same anymore.
He is a motivated and very kind person who actively works to promote, not only his blog, but any other photography related blog and there is a lot to learn from that.

N.B.: Sorry Brian but I won’t email you to tell you that the interview is online, let’s how quickly you will discover it

The interview

From EpicEdits about page: “I use this website to share what knowledge I have gained over my years in photography”

1. For how long have you been shooting pictures?

This is funny — the quote makes it sound like I’m a veteran photographer. Actually, I’ve only been into photography for about 5 years. The first 3 years were very casual (lots of family photos with the old P&S), but that’s where my interest in the art of photography really sparked. It was only in the last couple of years that I really started getting heavy into learning photography and making a serious effort.

2. Do you remember your first gear if yes what was it ?

My first digital camera was an Olympus D560, my first digital SLR was the Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D (which is also my current camera), and I’ve never shot film. I actually have a post that was written a little while back about the evolution of my photography gear, which goes into detail about my progression into digital photography.

From EpicEdits about page: “I wouldn’t mind someday having the opportunity to make a living from photography, but for now I have a day job.”

3. What is your day job ?

I’m a Mechanical Engineer working at a contract engineering firm called Quartus Engineering. We do mechanical design and analysis work for a wide range of companies, particularly in the Aerospace Industry. We also do work for the Medical Device Industry, which is my area of interest after having worked for a Johnson & Johnson for several years. So on nights & weekends I’m blogging and working on photos, and during the day I’m designing airplanes and medical devices.

4. Is photography your only/main hobby if no state another ?

Well, I suppose blogging is my biggest hobby right now — probably more so than photography (though the two go hand in hand for me). Outside of the Internet, I’m a foreign coin collector and a downhill mountain biker. I’ve been collecting coins since I was about 8, and I’ve been riding/racing downhill mountain bikes since I was 16 (I’m 25 now).

5. A lot of your pictures on flickr are street photography is it your preferred subject ?

I LOVE street photography! I’ve always been drawn to it, but I haven’t really tried it myself until very recently. Street photography is a favorite genre of mine because it’s so raw and un-staged — it’s life as it happens, and it’s timeless. I do hope that one day I can call myself a street photographer, but I have a long way to go before that happens!

6. A question that’s been burning my “lips” why is your logo a raven ?

I don’t know… It’s one of my favorite photos and it’s fairly easy to recognize on all the social networks. That’s pretty much it — no deeper meanings or anything.

7. can you share with us your 5 top rss NONE photography related (yes i want to know more about you )?

who doesn’t read it ??

8. what is the most important piece of gear you own ?

My eyes. But for the purchased equipment, I can’t really say that one piece of gear is more important than any of the others. Though if I had to pick one, I’d probably say that my spare battery is the most important — there’s nothing worse than running out of juice in the middle of a great shoot (I’ve learned my lesson more than once).

me: Honestly this is the answer I was waiting to get from a person like you.

9. I know you launched Epic Edits blog in Jan 07 what was your first “success post” ?

Depends on how you define success. I’ve had a couple of “success posts” based on different criteria. Night+Camera+Car=ART was the first post that got attention from a larger blog (digital Photography School). Warning: These 9 Photoshop Techniques May Result in Great Photos was the first post to receive a lot of attention from social media (StumbleUpon). And Five Fantastic Flickr Photographers was the first post to get Dugg.

10. What is your best advice for the beginner in photography

Learn through practice, learn through others, learn through the Internet, learn through books, learn through others’ photos, and learn through life. Just get out there and start learning; the rest will happen naturally.

No related posts.
