Ever since the release of the Mac OS X Leopard, and due to the bugs reported with Lightroom 1.2, it was expected that Adobe reacts quickly and issue an upgrade pretty soon.

Well here are the new versions of Adobe Lightroom 1.3 and Camera RAW 4.3 now supporting

The new version of Abobe Lightroom introduces better support for Mac OS X 10.5.

Unbelievable ! Unconceivable ! those are the thoughts that came into my mind when I first read this article.
Mac OS X – Leopard was patched and can now be installed on PC! No need to buy a MAC.

DisclaimerI DID NOT TRY THESE PROCEDURES since I already own a MAC.

Adobe Lightroom bug fix expected soon

As previously pointed out, Adobe Lightroom 1.2 is not fully compatible with the new Mac OS leopard.

“The good news is that we’ll be releasing an update in mid-November that will address key compatibility issues” said Tom Hogarty.

Here is the list of problems that photographers may encounter with Lightroom 1.2 on Leopard:

The Print module may not load
The Import dialog and other dialogs can “disappear” below Lightroom’s main window. The dialog can be retrieved by switching to another application and then returning to Lightroom.
Lightroom’s web module may not provide a visual update after a setting is changed
The left-side panels in the Develop module may not display properly. Resizing or closing/opening the panels will correct the issue.
The interaction between Leopard’s Time Machine and Lightroom’s catalog files is unknown at this time. Running Time Machine backup or restore operations while Lightroom is in use is not recommended until more information can be obtained

Bug in the latest Adobe update?

Just a couple of hours I posted about the latest Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Lightroom update that is supposed to bring RAW support to new cameras like the Canon EOS 40D.

As you can imagine this update was received with great enthusiasm by all Adobe Photoshop and Abobe lightroom users.

However it was only a matter of minutes before Canon users notice that this upgrade adds support only to the 40D RAW files but not to the sRAW file !

Bug or did Adobe engineer just forgot about that detail ?

Adobe released sometime during the night an update for Adobe Camera RAW 4,2, AKA ACR, and Adobe Lightroom V1.2 adding support to some camera raw formats and notably the Canon EOS 40D

The way ACR should have always been

Recently Adobe has released Camera Raw 4.1, and what was expected to be a small update turned out to be a major one.

ACR ” ((“Adobe Camera Raw”))” is loaded with new features and new functionality, such as a series of enhancements in the sharpening controls, a new control called Clarity, enhanced noise reduction and two new defringing controls in lens correction.

If you are an Adobe Photoshop CS3 users, there is a lot to be surprised about in the Adobe Camera Raw 4.1, and for most of your raws they will not need any more post processing.

New Canon Picture Style for DPP 3.0 available

Four days ago I’ve told you how you can use the “old” Canon Picture Style with Digital Photo Professional 3.0, but this is not required anymore since Canon has released their Digital Photo Professional 3.0 compatible picture styles.

The Picture Style file was updated, and is more access-friendly.
Picture Style files can be handled more easily with EOS DIGITAL software—“Digital Photo Professional” Version 3.0 and ”EOS Utility” Version 2.0. Different file types associated with different models have been integrated, simplifying file supervision and registration for photographers with multiple models.

Canon RAW codec for Windows Vista operating system is now released, the codec supports .CR2 RAW files, but not .CRW files.

The long awaited Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.0 is finally here and available for download.

Here are the changes since Digital Photo Professional 2.2

Added functions
1-1. Support added for Windows Vista.
1-2. Support was added for EOS-1D Mark III.
1-3. Support added for single-image display for RAW+JPEG images. (*)
The edited content is applied only to RAW images. File moving, copying, or deleting applies to both the RAW image and the JPEG image. Single image display is only used with CR2-type RAW and JPEG images that were shot simultaneously. (The images used with TIFF-type RAW and JPEG images can not be displayed as a single image).
1-4. Enabled thumbnail image rearranging using drag & drop.
1-5. Enabled a frame display in trimmed images in main window or edit image window.
1-6. Added multi-image synchronizing function in edit window.
1-7. Supported multi-page printing in detailed setting printing.
1-8. Enabled a Color Management settings window call function in the detailed setting printing window.
1-9. Enabled images trimmed in DPP to print as trimmed images when they are printed using Easy-PhotoPrint, Easy-PhotoPrint Pro.
1-10. The GPS data can be displayed with other shooting information when the GPS data is added to it.

Changed Functions
1-11. Brought together as collective image adjustments in the tool palette in the main window. Added a noise reduction tab, and allowed noise reduction to be applied to individual images.
1-12. Changed the display method of trimmed images in edit window, edit image window. Images trimmed in DPP are now printed as trimmed images.
1-13. Improved the speed for displaying RAW images in edit window.
1-14. Support added for new Picture Style files. (.pf2)
The extension for the Picture Style files has been changed from “.pse” to “.pf2″ Please download the files again. The effect of the files has not been changed.

Modified Functions
1-15. When selecting the detailed setting printing and contact sheet printing, the printing result could become completely white (or in some cases, completely black). But this has been corrected.

Adobe Camera Raw 3.7

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom out of beta

After being in beta for a full year, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 hits finally the market with the version 1.0 as of January 29th 2007 for the special introductory price of $199 ” ((“until April 30 and after $299″))”

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom should ship starting February 19th, 2007 preloaded with Adobe Camera Raw version 3.7 and thus more than 150 RAW formats from different digital camera including the Nikon D40 and the Pentax K10D.

New Adobe Bridge CS3 beta 2

For those who are actually using Adobe Photoshop CS3 beta version, there is a new version of Adobe Bridge beta 2 released on January 18, 2007 and is available for download.

Release Notes

Mac: After installing the newer Bridge beta build over the older beta build, there will be two Bridge executables in the Applications:Adobe Bridge CS3 folder. Customers must launch ‘Bridge CS3′ to run the updated version
Mac/Win: Bridge error on launch: ‘An error occurred in a Bridge extension. JavaScript error (EventHandler:0): handler is not a function’
Workaround: Disable Start Meeting, Device Central, and Photoshop Services in the Startup Scripts pane under Edit>Preferences (win) or Bridge CS3>Preferences (Mac). Note: OLS and Photoshop Services are both listed in the Startup Scripts preferences. This occurs because the newer beta Bridge build was installed over the older beta build.
Mac/Win: When using Software Rendering, the Loupe only displays 100% (not 200%, etc…)
Win: Using the Backspace key to delete a file or Alt-Backspace to mark an item as rejected does not work as expected.
Workaround: Use delete key instead.
Mac/Win: Unable to open PSD files created in Lightroom if Bridge was used to modify the file.
Workaround: Do not modify Lightroom files in Bridge
Mac: After changing metadata (add keywords, rotate, etc.) for .psd and .jpg files, can’t double-click files to open in PS CS3 using same Bridge session.
Workaround: Exit Bridge and re-start.
Mac/Win: Open RAW file via Bridge Camera Raw and click on Open button in Camera Raw window. Photoshop is not launched as expected.
Workaround: Shift-double-click the RAW file in the Bridge window to open in Photoshop (note on windows: Photoshop may not come to the front when launched or if already running).
