Easter being around the corner, I am trying my best to gather resources that would make it easier for all of us to prepare before the holiday rush keeps us busy.

So here is a collection of 145 free Adobe Photoshop brushes that I was able to find. I made sure to diversify the sets to include different styles and elements. You will find egg, chicken, Easter woods, vintage Easter eggs, traditionally religious brushes, baskets, bunnies and even Easter grass.

Enjoy the collection, put it to creative use and most important if I missed some interesting barushes please share them with us and remember that the original websites contain a lot of other free brushes so make sure to visit them

Download Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.5 Today

If you are a Canon DSLR user you might be interested to download and test the new version of Canon’s RAW converter Digital Photo Professional, or DPP, version 3.5.0.0 that ships with the new Canon EOS 50D.

This download is NOT yet an official Canon release and available only for Microsoft Windows OS (English).

So grab your DPP now on Rapidshare or BadOnGo and if you are looking for the instruction manual it can be found on Canon website!

By the way this is a full version, not an upgrade and doesn’t require any previous version installed.

Photoshop tutorial: Fix blown skin highlights

Blown skin highlights is an unfortunate but common problem on portraits that are otherwise well exposed. I’ve read and tried many techniques with mixed results. So I developed this technique, using the best steps I’ve found in the work of others. Would appreciate feedback and improvements.

The process uses three common techniques. First it targets “blown” highlights using the Threshold adjustment. Then it changes that target area to a light neutral gray using Levels and Hue/Sat. Finally it paints color over the target area.

First step is to find the blown highlights.
- Add a New Adjustment Layer/Threshold and set the Threshold Level between 225 and 230. Start with 225.
- Select/Color Range and from the top drop down menu choose “Highlights”
- Delete the Threshold layer, no longer needed. The selection remains active and ready for the next step.
Next create a layer group to hold the following adjustments and apply the selection as a mask to the group level so it applies to all adjustments.
- Layer/New/Group.
- Add a Layer Mask to the Layer Group. The active selection from step 1 will automatically become the layer mask.
- But that mask has a hard edge, so apply a Gaussian Blur to it. The radius of the Gaussian Blur will depend on your image and its resolution. Start with a radius between 15 and 20 and experiment.
- You might need to modify the mask by hand if there are areas outside of the skin that are also over the 225 to 230 level. Watch out for the whites of the eyes. Just paint those areas on the mask with black.
Now we need to lower the level of the blown highlights. Later (in step 4) we will apply color to the area, but the color layer will not apply well to pure white, so we want to make the area a light gray.
- With the Layer Group selected, add a Levels adjustment layer and set its opacity to 50%. In the Levels dialogue box, do not adjust the “Input Levels” sliders as you normally do. Instead, adjust the “Output Levels.” Change the high output level from 255 to the same level you used to create the Threshold Mask in Step 1, which was between 225 and 230.
- Now add a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to the group, and set the Saturation to -100 to desaturate the area. Making the area neutral gray allows the color painting that follows to work a little better.
Now we are ready to fill the area with color.
- Add a new blank layer to the Layer Group with Layer/New/Layer, and set the blending mode to “Color”.
- Use the Eyedropper tool and click somewhere on the face to choose a color. Click on a point outside of the adjustment area but close to it.
- Fill the layer with this color, using Edit/Fill or the Paint Bucket tool. If you don’t like what you see, choose a different color point and re-fill the layer. Experiment until you are satisfied.
- As an alternative to a solid fill, you can paint by hand. Select a soft round brush. Alt-Click near, but outside the edge of the adjustment area to pick a color. Then brush over the area. Keep working around the edge, reselecting the color and painting until you have filled the entire area. You can even do both. First, fill the entire area as in step 4D, then paint by hand around the edges to touch up.
These steps will restore tone and color. But there may be no texture to the skin. No pores, no blemishes, probably a bit too smooth. You can add some noise with this optional step for more realistic looking skin.
- Layer/New/Layer. Select Mode:Soft Light and check “Fill with soft-light-neutral color”
- Filter/Noise/Add Noise. Use a low Amount, between 5 and 10. Uncheck the “monochrome” box, and play with “uniform” vs. “gaussian.” I think “uniform” works best.
In spite of the Gaussian Blur on the Threshold mask, the edges may still be a bit too distinct for you. If so, you can clean them up with the Clone or Healing Brush tools.

N.B.: Note, this process was developed primarily for skin tones and was tested on high resolution images (4000 by 2700 pixels). If might work well for other types of blown highlights. For lower resolution images you may want to reduce the amount of Gaussian Blur and Noise levels.

If you’ve been carefully following adidap through out this month, then you should have done by now your Christmas cards. But Christmas is not the only thing happening, in just over a month we will kiss 2007 goodbye and we “should” be ready for a new year.

So don’t wait, grab these great and free adobe photoshop calendar templates gathered from the internet & make your own calendars.

After the collection of 300+ free photoshop Christmas brushes I will share with you today a collection of free Adobe Photoshop templates that we can use for this year’s Christmas cards (thanks to the efforts of fellow photographers that decided to make them available for us)

Before hitting the list I would like to remind you about the cool snowglobe action that can turn very handy too.

Paste (Control-V)

Edit>Free Transform (Control-T)

Move into position behind opening.

Size image while holding the shift key to constrain proportions

Flatten

Save, Print or resize for web display, email etc.

Download Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.1 today

I don’t think it is new news to you if I tell you that the Canon EOS 40D ships with Canon Digital Photo Professional ” ((“or DPP”))” version 3.1. However this version ships only with the 40D and is not available for download through Canon website.

However if, like myself, you don’t own the 40D you can still get your hands on DPP 3.1 (Windows version only tho), and the good thing is that this version will install on a clean system even if you don’t have any previous versions of DPP installed.

So grab your copy of Canon Digital Photo Professional 3.1 right now here (26 megs)

Noise is often introduced in digital images due to many factors like, high ISO, long exposure, sensor technology, low light etc…

To reduce noise in the digital dark room there are well know, but rather expensive, commercial tools like Neat image and Noise Ninja.

A not-to-be-missed Adobe Photoshop script

Here is a free Adobe Photoshop script, written by Joe Colson, I’d like to share with you. the PrintEXIF Script.

PrintEXIF is a script for Adobe Photoshop CS2 that automates the presentation of shooting information (EXIF) for either a photo that is targeted for the Web or a photo that will be printed. PrintEXIF creates a frame around the photograph and “prints” shooting information – EXIF data – in the bottom of the frame. It uses both standard EXIF data and data that has been recorded in the IPTC Caption field by Nikon Transfer.

How to install:
1. Download PrintExif 2.0 and extract
2. Copy “PrintEXIFv2.0.jsx” to Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CS2>Presets>Scripts folder (PC) or Applications>Adobe Photoshop CS2>Presets>Scripts folder (Mac).
3. Run Adobe Photoshop the script can now be found in the File>Scripts menu of Photoshop.

N.B.:The script will not appear in the File>Scripts menu until you restart Adobe Photoshop.

This script was tested on a PC running Microsoft Windows XP and on a Mac running OS X. It is written for Photoshop CS2 and will soon will be compatible with CS3.

17 + 1 B&W images to compare in just one click

I love Black and White picture, who doesn’t ? But I usually have a very hard time doing my own conversions and I find it much easier to use “ready made” actions and formulas on the web.

Not so long ago I’ve pointed to 17 Channel Mixer formulas that can easily be used in Adobe Photoshop.

Well what I am proposing here today is an Adobe Photoshop action written by Will Hammond that will take care of converting your colored image into monochrome using each of the above stated 17 formulas plus an extra Infra-Red one and tile them side by side for easier comparison.

All you have to do is
1) Download the B&W Paper and Film action
2) Unzip it
3) Start Adobe Photoshop, go to your Actions panel, and load the atn file you’ve just unziped.
4) Open the required image and click play

Here is a preview of what you will end up with

P.S.:This action has been tested on Photoshop v. 7-CS3
